5 Best Places To Organize In Your Home

5 Best Places to Organize in Your Home In a study by Princeton University Neuroscience Institute, they found people are less productive and more distracted when surrounded by physical clutter. The home is a common place for clutter to pile up and stay that way for months. By organizing the most common used areas of your home you will find your life will become more peaceful and productive. Purge Your Bedroom Closet– Your bedroom closet holds a lot of different things including your clothes, memorabilia, important documents, and so much more. Start by clearing out your closet and getting rid of or donating any clothes or other items that aren’t useful to you anymore. Organize your clothes into categories such as colors, collared shirts, jeans, etc. Keep your drawers tidy and be sure to fold all clothing items. Create shoe storage on shelves, cubbies or the floor. Store lessor used items under your bed. Organize Your Home Office– The office is usually the place where the whole family’s odds and ends show up. If you work from home, then you definitely want to make sure your office is organized. Go through any paper stacks and throw away anything you don’t need and file the rest. Store all office supplies in containers, drawers and baskets. Organize your books by either color, genre or size. Tackle the Linen Closet– The linen closet is meant to be functional, but it often turns into a catchall for many different items. Do you really need use and need everything in your linen closet? 107 McCall Street – Design and Paint Palette

Design and Paint Palette 107 McCall Street was built in 1916 as a Folk Victorian, as seen through its prominent front bay window, but otherwise simple, linear feel.  It has been carefully updated to modern appeal while preserving and building on the original character of the home by adding a period appropriate steep bronze metal roof, and linear three over one windows. The fresh and detailed color palette highlights the trim features prominent in Period homes and it provides a preview of the interior colors and custom features. The interior style is updated to a Vintage Urban Farmhouse.  The paint colors for the house are a modern blend of designer Benjamin Moore colors. They were all chosen carefully for the space with light and reflectivity kept in mind. They flow to create an open floor plan that is calming but not ordinary.  Most were chosen from the Historic Collection, making them period appropriate to this 100yr home. The color scheme downstairs relies on Gray Owl for the base. This is a versatile backdrop for the mid-tone gray and white kitchen color scheme, and lets the midnight oak floors, oversized wood windows, and heart pine reclaimed wood wall and kitchen shelves be the stars of the living area. A beaded chandelier and other reproduction vintage iron and glass globe light fixtures continue the look and highlight the 10ft ceilings, and 7 ft doors.  White subway tile in the kitchen set on a herringbone lends a different approach to the common subway pattern, while not being overpowering. The house’s scheme is balanced with Benjamin Moore’s color of the year, Simply White,... read more

Renovation of 107 McCall Street, Greenville, SC – Exterior Materials

This week we will focus on the materials used on the exterior of 107 McCall Street, Greenville, SC.  This charming craftsman cottage is getting a modern facelift with high quality, energy efficient materials.  Let’s start with the roof and work our way down.  The standing seamed metal roof is one of the most popular choices in the residential roofing industry.  It is a maintenance free choice that adds beauty and will last for decades.  Standing seamed metal roofs can also help improve the overall energy efficiency of a house. The builder chose locally made VictorBilt Argonic Filled wooden windows with Low E double pane glass.  They are true low maintenance, tilt out windows that have superior energy efficiency and exceed the U-value requirements for Energy Star.   The siding is authentic HardiePlank siding that creates a flat-out gorgeous look.  It is backed by the Good Housekeeping Seal.  It adds a unique, classic cottage look and the durability and low maintenance can’t be beat.  The builder chose it for it’s longevity, appearance, fire resistance, storm resistance and energy efficient properties.  HardiePlank is made out of fiberous cement and stands the test of time.  It is rot and termite resistant and is resistant to warping and shrinking unlike other types of wood or vinyl siding. Some of the exterior features will include a permeable side driveway, brick patio in the back made from the bricks that were originally from the home’s chimney and will be 9’x 12′ in a Herringbone pattern.   The backyard will have a horizontal plank privacy fence with a gate.  This will be a very low maintenance... read more
