Why May Is My Favorite Month in Greenville

There’s something extra special about May in Greenville. Spring is in full bloom, the weather is warm but not too hot, and everywhere you turn, the city is alive with energy. Honestly, May might just be my favorite month to live, work, and play here—and if you’ve spent a spring in the Upstate, I’m sure you understand why.

Greenville has always had a strong sense of community, but it truly shines in the springtime. Our city’s calendar is packed with events that bring people together—whether you're an art lover, a foodie, a music fan, or someone who simply enjoys being outdoors.

Here are just a few of the incredible events happening this May:

  • Downtown Alive & Main Street Fridays bring live music to NOMA Square every Thursday and Friday evening. These weekly events are the perfect way to unwind after a long day and kick off the weekend surrounded by friends and neighbors.

  • TD Saturday Market kicks off its season in May, turning Main Street into a bustling farmers market every Saturday morning. It’s my go-to spot for fresh produce, local honey, handmade goods, and of course, a great cup of coffee.

  • Artisphere (May 9–11) is one of Greenville’s signature events and a personal favorite. Artists from all over the country set up along Main Street, creating an incredible open-air gallery. Whether you’re shopping for something special or just enjoying the creativity, it’s an event that truly showcases Greenville’s commitment to the arts.

  • Mother’s Day Weekend at Topsoil is another highlight, with a special afternoon tea and brunch to celebrate the moms in your life. Topsoil’s focus on local, seasonal ingredients makes it a Travelers Rest favorite, and this is always one of their most popular weekends.

  • The Greenville Greek Festival (May 16–18) brings authentic Greek food, music, and culture to the heart of the city. It’s one of the best ways to get a taste of Greece without leaving town, and the homemade baklava alone is worth the trip.

  • The Greenville Scottish Games (May 24) at Furman University are a true Upstate tradition. There’s something magical about hearing the bagpipes echo across campus and watching the athletic competitions and Highland dancing. It’s a full-day celebration of Scottish heritage that’s fun for the whole family.

  • Other fantastic events include the Piedmont Plant & Flower Festival, Polish Fest, Greenville Jazz Fest, international food festivals, and more. No matter your interests, there’s something for you this month.

All of these events remind me why I love calling Greenville home. It’s a city that offers the perfect balance of small-town charm and vibrant community life, with endless opportunities to connect, explore, and celebrate what makes this place unique.

If you’re thinking about moving to the area—or if you already live here and are considering a change—I’d love to help you find the perfect place to call home. Let’s chat about your real estate goals and how you can make the most of living in Greenville.
